What is SEO?

So, what is SEO and why is it important?

On a typical Google search, the first four positions are paid ads. Following that are the map listings. Map listings kind of come under the SEO umbrella. They're known as GBP (Google Business Profile) or local SEO, and we will go into that in one of the further sections. Underneath that is the organic search listing. So, you'll see the SEO has been forced halfway down page one.

So, if we Google something the very first thing you see is paid ads. However, and don't ask me why, but people do ignore paid ads. They do tend to either go to the map listings or the organic search. Now the organic search consists of ten positions, and then you've got three more paid positions at the bottom of the SERP.

Now, why is it important to be there, first and foremost? For any business, it's really important to get traffic, leads, conversions, forms filled out, data collected, and everything else that will help you grow as a business. So, it would help if you ranked well on Google as a small business.

A lot of local service businesses mainly start with map listings. Again, we'll go into that further in the course.

So, that is what Google is. There's no point in being on page two. Ideally, you want to be as high up on page one as possible. And in this course, we'll go into how you get there.
