A debt buyer is someone who claims to buy debt.

There are numerous companies that will buy portfolios of debt and say that they now own it.

The vast majority of these companies are debt collectors.

When these guys are attempting to collect, we strongly recommend that you ask them to prove they own it.

The purchase agreement is key to prove they own it, but the company they bought it from will put something in the agreement that says they make no claim that the information is accurate.

Because of this, debt buyers typically refuse to enter the purchase agreement as evidence that they own the debt.
