You don't NEED to shave your dog's coat down to keep him cool. There is a better way to do this. When you shave a coat off the skin is HOTTER than it would be without fur. This video shows what happens to a double dog coat when it is shaved down regularly. If you choose to shave your dog down for whatever reason, THIS IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO IT.

Don't take this video personally or get defensive about shaving your dog. I'm just giving the facts.
This video is not meant for teaching children how to train dogs. Children should never be left unattended with any dog and should not be training dogs on their own anyway.

For those of you who are having trouble understanding the "repair" part of it, yes the fur is DEAD it is hair but if you leave it for YEARS without shaving it, every piece of dead hair will regrow so it can "repair" the coat.

I am going over what happens to a dog's double coat when it is shaved down. The dog in this video is a Border Collie.
