If you're considering a return to or transition within the workforce, VOLUNTEERING could be your secret weapon. As you gear up for your next career move, it's crucial to assess where you're investing your time.

You’ll need to make space in your calendar for your job search. This will likely mean cutting back on where you are volunteering – and becoming more strategic about where you give your time.

In this video, we share 5 questions to ask yourself every time you raise your hand to volunteer:

1⃣ Skill Alignment: Is this job or role a good use of my skills and experience?
2⃣ Skill Development: Does it further develop or advance my skills?
3⃣ New Skill Acquisition: Will I learn valuable and relevant new skills in this role?
4⃣ Relevance: Is this volunteer role clearly relevant to the job I seek and the industry I want to enter?The closer the connection, the more valuable the experience.
5⃣ Enjoyment and Fulfillment: Do I enjoy this role and get significant satisfaction out of doing it? Your volunteer work should be rewarding, both personally and professionally.

If you answer “yes” to at least two of these questions, then your volunteer role is strategically valuable and worth continuing. If not, then move on and let someone else do it!
