VN24 27042023 (D/M/Y) Ascheberg A1 / Germany At night around 03:15, a Semitrailer, fully loaded with water bottles, was heading southbound on the A1 freeway when, for unknown reasons, it first left the roadway to the right, then went into the ditch and overturned. In order to keep the heavy rushhour traffic flowing, it was decided, after securing the leaking fuel, to leave the accident wreck the whole day. In the evening, at around 6 p.m., the salvage operations began. First, 20 tons of beverage bottles had to be unloaded by hand. These were placed in several containers. A single tow truck managed to get the truck back on its wheels using the winches via pulleys. A mobile crane provided a soft touchdown for the truck. The recovery work lasted into the night of the following day. During this time, traffic was able to pass the accident site on one lane. A full closure was not necessary. Nothing was released about the cause of the accident or injuries to the driver.
