VN24 07082023 (D/M/Y) Selm/Germany Apparently the stubbornness of a cyclist almost brought down a 24ton, and thus almost fully loaded garbage truck. According to eyewitnesses, the cyclist (m/f) was traveling southbound on Westerfelde Street when the truck, which took up almost the entire width of the road, came toward him on the narrow road. Instead of pausing for a few seconds in a small side path, which left only about 20 meters before, until the truck had passed, he drove towards the garbage truck almost in the middle of the road. The driver of the socalled side loader tried to avoid the bicycle to the maximum to prevent a collision, but in the process got his wheels on the dirt shoulder and drove hopelessly stuck. The cyclist then fled without taking care of the caused damage. A towing company had to be called to recover the garbage truck. The towing service also called in a crane operator to keep the truck balanced during the recovery operation. The crane crew visibly struggled to build a reasonably stable crane site. A truck with a loading crane from the Selm public utility company finally brought large steel plates in front of the accident site. An allterrain telescopic loader with fourwheel drive transported these steel plates around the entire operation site to the crane. No people were injured. The garbage truck was also able to continue its journey afterwards.
