VERY RARE: Singleton Bi-Directional Reed Accordion (Michael Bridge)

Michael Bridge

Every few months, a young accordionist asks me if I know of any plans to develop an accordion with bidirectional reeds. Once upon a time, I even drew plans myself for how such a reed could be designed. Then, when I visited A World of Accordions Museum, I was stunned to discover that such an instrument was built in Italy in the 1950sonly it didn't catch on. Until more investment into accordion design research is made, these principles won't be improved or become mainstream. But this instrument is absolute proof that the concept works and could be developed further. This could change the most fundamental aspect of accordion design.

If you enjoy this video, I encourage you to make a donation to A World of Accordions Museum (here: http://www.worldofaccordions.org/dona...) to help preserve unique instruments that tell the story of the accordion.

Thank you to Dr. Helmi Harrington, curator, who has granted me full access to the Museum's collection and archives for study on several occasions.
