Varenna is an Italian commune in the province of Lecco in the Lombardy region of Italy, located along Lake Como.

Explore Varenna
Although small, Varenna is one of the prettiest of the small towns on the shores of Lake Como in Lombardy, plus there are some very attractive gardens to visit, so we highly recommend a visit if you are exploring. Italian lakes. Although Varenna does not avoid visitors, it tends to be less crowded than some of the more famous villages around the lake.

As with most towns on Lake Como, you are likely to start your visit to Varenna with a walk along the lake front: the promenade is very scenic. The path starts at the jetty where you get off the boat. The first part of the walk is a narrow path that follows the edge of the lake.

As you approach the center of the village, you have a wonderful view of the harbour, the colorful houses and the church behind the houses, and towards the mountains that surround the village. This part of Varenna has several small bars and cafes and is an idyllic place to enjoy your lunch.

A little further and you reach a small pebble beach. Behind the promenade, in the old part of Varenna, ancient alleys and stairs pass between the houses. You will soon arrive in the main square of the village, Piazza San Giorgio. The main historical monuments of Varenna are the two churches in this square.
