Veterans may develop multiple disabilities as a result of their military service. Each health condition receives its own rating. Then, those ratings are combined to determine their overall monthly VA disability compensation. However, 80% + 20% doesn't equal 100% in VA math. It's 84%, which gets rounded down to 80%.
The bilateral factor and other extraschedular ratings also affect your combined rating and monthly compensation amounts.
