My wife had a meeting in Seattle so I flew her down to Paine Field where a friend picked her up. Conditions were worse than forecast but I had an IFR flight plan on file. The freezing level was fairly low, about 3,000 feet, which complicated things. I departed the airpark and flew VFR until I got close to Whidbey NAS airspace where I knew I could get a clearance at a fairly low altitude below the freezing level. It all worked out. My wife made her meeting on time and I enjoyed a nice breakfast with a good friend while I was waiting for her. Conditions were VFR for the trip back to the airpark.
