It took a long time, but now the German Bundesrat has decided: HVO 100 may be sold at German petrol stations. What impact will this have, especially in the transport sector?

HVO 100 stands for "Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil". This means that this fuel is produced from vegetable oils, usually from waste such as frying oil. It is therefore a pure biodiesel. The advantage: with HVO 100, around 80 90 per cent less CO2 is emitted during combustion.

Haulage companies have therefore been promoting biodiesel for a long time. They have always realised that there will still be combustion trucks on Germany's roads for many years to come, no matter how successful electric and hydrogen trucks become. Therefore, there had to be a solution to significantly reduce CO2 emissions even with conventional combustion engines. One possibility: HVO 100.
