Time Crystals: Matter In 4th Dimension Explained

The World Of Science

Time Crystal is a theoretical state of matter that represents a phase of matter that breaks time translation symmetry. In simpler terms, it's a structure that repeats not only in space but also in time. Unlike conventional crystals, which have a repeating spatial pattern, time crystals exhibit a repeating pattern over time.

The concept of time crystals was first proposed by Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek in 2012. The idea was initially met with skepticism because it seemed to violate the second law of thermodynamics, which states that entropy, or disorder, tends to increase over time.

What makes time crystals fascinating is their potential applications in quantum computing. They could provide a more stable form of qubits (quantum bits), the basic units of information in quantum computers.
