THREELEGGED STRAY DOG COMES TO VOSD FOR LIFELONG CARE

Winnie was a happy, playful pup with her entire life ahead of her. On a fateful day, all her prospects of continuing on to a healthy, normal adulthood vanished, when a speeding vehicle rammed into her. The collision led to severe nerve damage which caused one of her front legs to become paralysed from knee down. Winnie got prompt medical attention and her leg stayed in a cast for a month, and later a rod was inserted inside her leg for two months, but her nerve did not regenerate. Meanwhile, Winnie had to drag her paw to stay mobile, as this tendency was causing several wounds; her leg had to be amputated.

The amputation surgery was successful and after staying at the hospital and foster homes for more than three months, Winnie was released to her location on the street once again. She stayed active in her home environment for a while but the ordeal of the accident, the injury and losing a leg had left some emotional scars. Winnie had become submissive; sensing her weakness her pack members began dominating her; poor Winnie was finding it very difficult to fend for herself due to her diminished status in the pack hierarchy.

Given the complexity of the situation, Winnie's caretaker deemed it best to surrender her to VOSD; and we happily welcomed the threelegged docile dog to her forever home. Initially, Winnie was terrified to find herself in completely new surroundings but after a few days of socialisation she grew to be comfortable. We hope with some more months of love, care and support, Winnie will heal from her trauma and once again turn into the spunky dog we are told she once was.

A terrible road accident changed Winnie's life forever but fate gave her a minibreak and she now finds herself amidst family at VOSD, she will finally be able to resume her life's journey and be the happy pooch she always was meant to be once again.
