This very early antiVietnam War video was made in 1964. I did not film this and I do not know how the filmmaker who did got the rights he did, both audio and video.

In 1964 basic training for soldiers in the United States military was a rigorous and standardized process designed to prepare recruits for their roles in the armed forces. While not all soldiers were being trained specifically to go to Vietnam at that time, the conflict in Vietnam did lead to an increased deployment of American troops to the region.

Duration: Basic training in ’64 typically lasted for approximately eight weeks.
Recruits underwent intense physical conditioning to improve fitness, including run. Soldiers learned military drills and ceremonies that included marching, saluting and handling weapons. Recruits received training on various firearms including rifles and handguns.

Basic combat skills such as marksmanship, handtohand combat, and fieldcraft were taught to prepare soldiers for combat situations.

Discipline was emphasized, and recruits were taught to follow orders and respect authority. Leadership skills were also introduced. Soldiers were educated on the military code of conduct, which outlined their responsibilities as members of the armed forces.

By 1964, the United States had already become increasingly involved in the Vietnam War. While not all soldiers going through basic training were being trained specifically for Vietnam, the situation in Vietnam was becoming a significant factor in military planning.

The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, passed in August 1964, gave President Lyndon B. Johnson broad authority to escalate U.S. military involvement in Vietnam.

As a result of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, the number of American troops being sent to Vietnam increased substantially in the years following 1964.

Soldiers being trained in 1964 could potentially be deployed to Vietnam as the conflict continued to escalate.

While some soldiers did receive specialized training for combat in Vietnam, basic training was intended to provide a foundation of skills and discipline that could be applied to various military roles, whether at home or abroad.
