By the second half of the Permian, the dominant Therapsids began to develop increasingly mammallike features such hair, raised metabolisms and complex teeth. Therocephalians were a good example of this, being a diverse bunch ranging from tiny hedgehoglike insectivores to tigersized apex predators.
