We have more building related issues in the last two decades than we have had in the previous century. What has changed? Materials and energy flow. We are no longer building out of thousandyearold trees and rocks. We are building out of moisture sensitive materials. We have significantly reduced the energy flow across the building enclosure. This has reduced drying potentials. It is ok to get wet if you can dry. Drying is an energy exchange. Less energy flow, lower drying potentials. To stay in moisture or hydric balance if you reduce drying potentials, you must reduce wetting potentials. This course deals with approaches to reduce wetting potentials while still being ultraenergy efficient.
