The Walk - EP 21 - Disused Railway Walk - Great Central Railway - Leicester Memories With My Dad

Follow
The Walk

Since I was a kid growing up on the Isle of Wight, my love of trains, and steam trains in particular, came from my Dad. The Great Central Railway was always talked about as something of great significance, and I always enjoyed watching old VHS tapes of the line through the midlands.
30+ years later, I live near the old GCR trackbed in Derbyshire, and talk to my very bored daughters about steam trains.
Me and my Dad take a trip to Leicester to visit Leicester Central Station and surrounding remains. Dad steps inside, and on the platform for the first time since 1958, and shares his memories of this line, and the nearby, little known West Bridge Station, on one of the first railways ever built.
