Outside of Amarillo is a small community known as Goodnight, named after “the father of the Texas Panhandle.” Charles Goodnight helped established the GoodnightLoving Trail, invented the chuckwagon, founded the JA Ranch in Palo Duro Canyon, and thanks to wife, saved the Southern Plains bison. The home he constructed for his wife in 1887, now serves as the Charles Goodnight Historical Center.
