The Orwell Youth Prize 2023 is open for entries on the theme of 'Who's in Control?'

Hear from one of our judges, the BBC's Disinformation and Social Media Correspondent Marianna Spring, and one of our Orwell Youth Fellows, Orwell Youth Prize 2022 Runner Up Ellie Mead, on why you should enter the Prize, why this theme is important now, and top tips for young writers entering this year!

The Orwell Youth Prize is an annual political writing prize for entrants in school years 813. Each year's theme is inspired by the writings of the novelist, essayist, journalist and critic George Orwell, encouraging entrants to think and write critically and creatively about the world around them and issues which matter today.

Entrants can submit writing in any form, including stories, articles, essays, poems, scripts, screenplays, reviews and video game designs. Shortlisted writers are invited to a Celebration Day at University College London in July, and winners and runners up receive Orwell books, certificates, publication on the Orwell Foundation website, and an invitation to join the Orwell Youth Fellows Programme.

Uniquely, the Prize offers free, personalised feedback to all entrants on a first draft. The deadline for feedback is Monday 24th April 2023. The final deadline is Wednesday 7th June 2023.
