The Only Sharpening Stone You'll Ever Need

Growing up, we always sharpened our knives on Dad's whetstone. I remember being barely able to make out the orange color of the stone and the word "NORTON" through the metal deposited on it from years of use.

We didn't have television so we occupied ourselves with work, or music. We raised farm animals and used our knives on a daily basis. I carried a Ranger stockman from the time I was seven until I graduated high school. From cutting open feed bags, to prying things loose and using it as a make shift screwdriver, it had 3 blades and that made it the next best thing to A Swiss Army Knife. I always kept one blade razor sharp and the others "serviceable."

In our spare time, whether out of necessity, or boredom, we would sharpen our knives. and it was always a competition to see who could get the sharper knife and it was always close.

A few years after my dad passed away, I remembered that Norton sharpening stone. After having worn out multiple diamond stones sharpening knives and plane irons, and growing sick of how slow Arkansas stones were, I decided I would try to rediscover Dad's old sharpening stone. That stone was the Norton India Stone.

The grits on it are a near perfect combination for getting a knife exceptionally sharp and doing so quickly. Though the Fine side is only rated at 320 grit, the edge off this stone is finer than what i get from low cost diamond stones rated at 600 grit. It has literally replaced all of my other sharpening stones except for the most extreme cases. If you only need a stone for sharpening pocket knives and kitchen knives, this stone would most likely last you a lifetime.

Hope you enjoyed the video. See you in the next one.
