Spain boasts some of the best football rivalries in the world. El Clasico has become one of the top fixtures in football as of late, but Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid in El Derbi Madrileño at times holds more weight, despite there being less on the line competitively. Claims of favouritism from Francisco Franco and his regime are pointed at each other, with El Pupas (Atletico) constantly underachieving and celebrating their misfortunes, while Real Madrid is synonymous with success both in Spain, and in Europe. We’ll look at the first Madrid Derby, as well as their recent meetings in the 2014 Champions League final where Real Madrid won La Decima and the 2016 Champions League Final.
