Bakery Marumado
Komatsu couple started this bakery in 2018. At the time, it was the only bakery on the island and was the talk of the town.
With a motto of "communitybased," the bakery sells about 30 different kinds of breads, using only locally grown and organically grown ingredients from Omishima. He has made more than 250 varieties to date.
After studying ecological economics at a graduate school in England, Mr. Komatsu worked for a marketing research company in Tokyo before moving to Omishima in the Seto Inland Sea when his child was born. With no experience working in a bakery, he opened Marumado Bakery. He has been baking country bread made with sourdough, and sweet breads and prepared breads using many ingredients from the island.
