The very first Dandie Dinmont Old Ginger was born here in this kennel in 1842. Bred from similar terriers in Scotland and Northern England, the Dandie Dinmont is one of a few dogs associated with the Scottish Borders, including the Border Terrier and the Border Collie. The real man who is said to have inspired the character in Sir Walter Scott's novel, Guy Mannering, lived here and bred these dogs in the early 19th century.
