The US F35 is now officially certified to carry a nuclear bomb. According to a spokesman for the F35 Joint Program Office (JPO), the F35 Joint Strike Fighter has received operational certification for carrying the B61 thermonuclear gravity bomb. Russ Goemaere, the JPO spokesman, stated in a release that this certification was attained on October 12, beating the timeline set for completion by January 2024, as promised to NATO allies. With this certification, specific F35 are now equipped to transport the B61, effectively designating the stealth fighter as a "dualcapable" aircraft capable of transporting both conventional and nuclear bomb armaments.
