U.S. Marine Corps' Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 501 and 502 trains new F35B Lightning II fighter aircraft pilots for the U.S. Marine Corps, Royal Air Force/Royal Navy, Italian Navy, and Japan Air SelfDefense Force.

This training is focused on teaching pilots how to perform short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) operations on the F35B.

VMFAT501 is based at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, and VMFAT502 is based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.
