Nikole HannahJones has spent years chronicling the way official policy has createdand maintainsracial segregation in housing and schools. Throughout her time at New York Times Magazine, her deeply personal reports on the black experience in America have offered a compelling case for addressing racial injustice and equity.

She was named a 2017 MacArthur Genius Grant Fellow (one of only 24 people chosen, globally) for "reshaping national conversations around education reform" and for her reporting on racial resegregation in our schools.

This is her latest honor in a growing list of notable accolades including a Peabody, a Polk Award, and, in 2017, a National Magazine Award for her story on choosing a school for her daughter in a segregated city.

She is currently writing a book on school segregation called The Problem We All Live With, to be published on the One World imprint of Penguin/Random House.

Cosponsored by Duke Policy Bridge, the Cook Center for Social Equity, and the Public School Forum of NC, "An Evening with Nikole HannahJones" is the inaugural event of their upcoming Color of Education annual summit, a statewide convening on race and education in North Carolina. In 2019 and beyond, "Color of Education" (#ColorofEducation) will evolve into a yearly, daylong summit of workshops and conversations that bring together educators, policymakers, national experts and other key stakeholders focused on achieving racial equity in education.
