This bowl has a central accent ring. The designer of this bowl, Carole Rothman, used a no void plywood for the ring. I was not able to find a suitable plywood. I tried some 3/4 baltic birch but did not like the look that it gave, not enough contrast between layers. So, I made my own plywood with some 1/8 walnut and 1/8 aspen. It is still not as good an effect as hers but I went with it. This bowl has multiple angles and a top ring inverted to give the shape. The top inverted ring is where I made an error. I applied the pattern to the incorrect side of the blank and made the maple line come out above the accent ring instead of just below the lip of the bowl. Again, I went with it. But lesson learned, be aware of the orientation of the ring in the bowl when applying patterns and cutting. Other than that I am pleased with the finished product.
