White noise machines are useful if you'd like to mask external noise that's disrupting your sleep, work, or study. By listening to a constant sound of your choosing, you're less likely to notice abrupt changes in the background noise. They can also be relaxing to listen to, particularly deeper pink or brown noise, fan sounds, and nature sounds.

In the video, I start off by explaining why I think there are several good white noise machines rather than an obvious winner. And why understanding the range of sounds they offer (white noise, fan and/or nature sounds) and the extra features are key to finding the right white noise machine for you personally.

As an overview, I recommend the LectroFan Evo for white noise and fan sounds, as well as loud volume. The Sound+Sleep has the widest range of nature sounds. The Marpac Uno has an internal fan that creates an authentic rushing air sound. The LectroFan Micro 2 is my favorite for travel. The Dreamegg D3 is a good midrange option. The Big Red Rooster lets you use normal AA batteries.
