Ever wonder where the art for our currency comes from? World renowned North Vancouver artist, Susanna Blunt ,designed the effigy of Queen Elizabeth used on all our Canadian coins. I had a chance to meet artist herself recently and Susanna was kind enough to sit down and tell me about her career.

My name is Susanna Blut.

I work in a lot of different mediums. Sculpture, painting. Some printmaking. I have been doing this all my life. I'm also a teacher. And I live and work in my gallery workshop space in North Vancouver.

I developed some sort of a reputation. I actually didn't realize that I had developed repetition. And one day the Royal Canadian Mint phoned me and asked if I would like to participate in a national competition, with nine artists, or a new effigy of Queen Elizabeth for our currency. I was thrilled to be asked and in the end I was absolutely amazed that they chose my design. So that on all are circulating coins.

I've been working on sculpture now for 20 something years and then I'm also working with other kinds of compositions on paper inkjet prints. I paint a lot of murals and I've sometimes travelled to do those as well. I still teach private lessons and I exhibit in my home an exhibit certain kinds of shows around Vancouver and this area. As well as internationally.

I have a number of projects that are ongoing right. Series of things that I'm working on and I suppose I will keep working on those for a long time to come. I mean maybe for the rest of my life. But anyway I'm always experimenting and doing new things very different from each other. I love living in North Vancouver. .

Art is definitely my life. It's a full time job and I will never stop unless I'm completely incapacitated.
