In this video I will reviewing the pocket size Stylophone ‘The Original Pocket Synthesizer’ device/toy.

Back in 1968 this gadget was invented in London by Brian Jarvis of Dubreq Company. It was designed with an idea to be able to play the simplest of musical textures consisting of a melody typically played by a single instrument player. The design is made up of with a single oscillator an electronic device which is controlled by a metal plate with 20 note keyboards which are printed directly on a PCB board, this allows for the device to produce a unique organ and electric sound.

What makes this stylophone a unique instrument toy is the distinctive sound that is hard to replicate by any other instrument and like many artists through time, it has been used to incorporate a unique sound within their music.

You have the main unit, within the unit you will find the on/off switch, a vibrato switch for enhancing the expression of the instrument, a headphone jack for personal audio, a unique control to tune the base, a stylus that cannot be detached, the 20note keyboard, the volume dial to low and enhance sound, three octave settings to change the pitch of your key notes and the battery base.

Let me show you how it works.
You turn the device and use the stylus to invoke a distinctive sound when you simply touch the metal plate of each note key which are close to a circuit with a voltagecontrolled oscillator, it creates the distinctive and primitive buzzing tone.

You also have the vibrato which can be used for adding additional emphasis in a note, press and maintain the stylus on the note as long as it is desired to hear the stress of the sound. The tune base is used for giving a specific key note a deep tone, the volume is selfexplanatory use it for low or loud and the octave settings to change the pitch sounds of each note.

Awesome device and for many a cool toy. What I personally like about the stylophone, is how easy it is to play, yes of course it is easy to play the simplest songs, such as happy birthday and other songs and you can definitely master this device and play a wide variety of songs with lots of practice.

This device/toy can tailor to the likes of anyone, from small children to adults. My kids love this device because of the electric sounds it makes, I also like that the stylus is attached and it can’t be lost. It would have been nice to have a rechargeable battery with a type C input instead of replacing batteries, but other than this, it’s a fun device for any occasion, gifts, etc..

Thanks for watching.
