Step 1- How to fill an Uponor Underfloor Heating System

UponorUK

Martin Allen, an approved Uponor installer, introduces the new manifold range by Uponor and shows you how to correctly fill an underfloor heating system. The key steps include:

1) Firstly, isolate the system if it is already connected using the isolation valves on the manifold.
2) Put a hose pipe onto the flow bar (top) manifold and turn on the water to pressurise the hose.
3) Turn on all flow meters to full and shut (using the valve caps) all the pins on the bottom bar of the manifold. please note: do not use actuators as these tend to be halfopen when new.
4) Connect the bottom tap onto a hose into a bucket of water and open the valve
5) You are now set for filling. Firstly open the top tap on the manifold to pressurise the top bar. Then working from left to right open the valve cap you should see the flow meter drop to show the flow. Then keep an eye on the bucket you are looking for a steady stream of water into the bucket with no bubbles or microbubbles.
6) Shut that loop and open the next, repeat this for the entire manifold.
7) Switch off of the bottom valve first then the top valve.
8) It is recommended to then turn off all loops and open the 4way valve to full and reconnect the hose pipes, but in reverse. This will ensure water is pushed through the pump and stops an airlock around the pump.
9) Once all completed, you now have a mains filled system ready for testing. This must be done before laying anything over the pipe system.
