If you've ever wondered if it's possible to install a straight stair lift yourself, you'll want to watch this 'start to finish' project to get an idea about what's involved. We’ll take you to our warehouse and show you some of the prep work necessary to complete a stair lift installation that we did for a client in the Airdrie & Calgary Areas. Then we'll take you right to the client's house to see the project in progress. Let's go for a lift and learn about:

( or get some help by contacting us: https://bit.ly/stairliftinstalls'>https://bit.ly/stairliftinstalls )

Review the measurements and installation plan details
Cut the necessary length of rails and join them
Install the charging strip
Attach the feet to the rail
Take a look inside the very UNIQUE (only one of its kind on the market) friction drive motor system
Compare the rail system to others on the market such as Acorn or Bruno and see the very simple rail system on the HANDICARE 1100 and talk about why it's one of the best stair lifts on the market
Meet with Phil & Derek at the client's house and watch the stair lift being installed
Get an understanding of the Zero Intrusion feature of the stair lift and how it helps address obstacles and tripping hazards
Understand how the chair and rail are adjusted to prevent them from becoming obstacles when opening the front door
Check out the power requirements to operate
Review the different rail options that are available for a stair lift including slide rail, flip up rail, zero intrusion and curved rail stair lift options
Discuss how Zero Intrusion helps minimize costs and ensures no tripping hazards, improving safety
Discuss the future...what if they want to remove the stair lift? What are the impacts for carpet vs. wooden stairs?
Understand the special predrilling requirements for the various types of floor materials such as porcelain or ceramic tile
Phil talks about why you don't usually need to remove railings when installing a stair lift
Where to place the feet on the stairs
Special extensions and plate for the Zero Intrusion feature
We'll get to see the rail in place, power connected and motor mounted on the rail
Review many of the built in safety features along the way
Look at the swivel feature
See the stair lift chair seat mounted on its pole
Discuss the special way it's levelled for a feeling of security while riding
Watch someone get a first ride to see how smooth and efficient it is

If you're thinking of installing a stairlift yourself, you'll want to consider the tools required and have an understanding of the measurements required. If you have a bit of an engineering background, this may be an achievable project.

What's involved in preparing and installing a straight stairlift?

First, we need to know length of staircase. We measure nose of landing down to floor at bottom. That's our first and most important piece of information. Next we ask if it's a right side or left side install (from bottom looking up). Second, we need to know what type of rail? There are a few choices: Slide rail, flip rail or door? We've go to make a plan for dealing with obstacles, i.e.: basement to upper floor if there's a door. What does the user need? All height requirements for the installation are based on the individual who will be using it. There's not a "standard height install"; it is adapted for shorter or taller people using it. It may be that the installation might require rail extension with a limiter. We also have to install it as close as the wall as possible to leave space for others to pass by on the stairs. We need to decide on swivel direction.
There are many considerations when installing a stairlift. All these considerations are further influenced by first and foremost, the safety of the user. The next influence is ease of use and lastly where a power source is located and how easy it is to reach.
