SSD File Recovery - Can Data Be Recovered from SSD Drives?

Here's the video tutorial that explains how to recover deleted files from an SSD drive on Windows & Mac OS.

What is an SSD Drive?
You'll find SSD drives like this on modern desktop and laptop computers. And these are typically more preferred than standard drives which have moving parts. Why are these more preferred well, because they don't have moving parts which can fail and they produce less heat than traditional drives.

Are SSD drives reliable?
Just because these are more reliable than traditional drives doesn't mean they're going to prevent you from accidentally deleting your files. You can still delete them.

Can I recover deleted files from an SSD drive?
Fortunately there are tools that can dive into these drives and try to restore those files. I'm going to show you how you can do that using a data recovery software, but first we need to talk about one particular issue TRIM.

When you use a TRIMenabled SSD (all modern SSDs support TRIM), deleted files are removed immediately and can't be recovered. The TRIM function on an SSD effectively nulls out space where deleted files were stored, making the data completely unrecoverable.

✅ SSD Data Recovery Is Still Possible! This is why:
#1 The data is not necessarily deleted every single time files are deleted (even when TRIM is enabled). This varies greatly based on the type of SSD. While this may not seem important it actually is, this means theoretically there could be a way to recover these files even without the direct links to them. It may also be possible to trick the disk firmware into returning an answer other than zero and thus use it to locate the file if traces still exist.

#2 Another potential angle for data recovery has to do with extra space on the disk drive. Many drives (Solidstate drives included) actually have more space than what is shown in your OS. This data may still be accessible even when the original blocks have been erased.

#3 We also should not rule out the possibility of older SSD drives and some newer that simply do not have TRIM enabled; these drives can be recovered easily just as older HDDs can be recovered.

#4 There has been some research into SSD data recovery which suggests that TRIM does not affect data when the partition is deleted. This means that an accidental partition deletion such as when installing an OS does not cause the same data loss as marking a file as deleted within your OS.

We're going to demonstrate using Disk Drill on Windows 10 & macOS. Free edition of Disk Drill lets you evaluate the recovery results completely by previewing the found files before recovery. Preview is the only way to verify that your files are recoverable!
