Peter & Kathy Holcombe (AKAFamagogo) explore deep into the wilds of Death Valley. They visit the Racetrack Playa, a massive flat as a pancake dry lake bed known for the mysterious moving rocks that leave trails in the mud behind them. This is a very remote area down a 27mile rocky road known for shedding tires. A true adventure for this couple living fulltime in a 4x4 Winnebago Revel Sprinter Van. The perfect vehicle for an extended stay in the Death Valley backcountry at Homestake Dry Camp is just minutes south of the Racetrack Playa.
Sitting like a guardian looking down on the Racetrack Playa is Ubehebe Peak at 5,678 ft; it towers 2’306 ft above the Racetrack Playa, making for a steep 2mile hike to its summit. But the views from the summit are amazing, looking down into the Saline Valley on one side and the whole Racetrack spread out before you on the other.
