This is not your ordinary school. It embarks the true meaning of “one of a kind” in that there is not one other place like it in the United States (as of this recording). The South Carolina Governors Agricultural School is nestled on a 1,310 acre farm. Students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades come from all over the state, and a few from out of state, to attend this academically rigorous program so that they may get something no one else can have; the chance to learn about all four pillars of the agricultural industry and mastering at least two of them before their high school graduation all the while living on campus for the duration of each semester. This is not a private school with costly tuition, room, and board; it is state funded so that all in state students can attend for free after completing a strict application process. I was fortune enough to speak with many faculty, staff, and students about their work and experiences here. This visit was nothing less than amazing! I can only hope that other states can create and maintain a program like this one!
