Hiker Biker Birder

Song Thrushes (Turdus philomelos) are a typical songbird of the Western Palearctic. One of the first birds to start singing at the end of winter, their song is one of the easiest birdsounds to learn: loud, repetitive (usually three or four similar syllables) and almost always in the top of a tree, especially later in the day. The literal translation of the scientific name means “ songloving Thrush”. Although quite a common bird in most parts of Europe, this species has seen a serious decline of more than 50% in some areas. It is believed that farming and hunting play a role in this decline. They look similar to the related Mistle Thrush (Turdus viscivorus), but Mistle Thrushes are much larger and about 40% heavier than Song Thrushes.
