Solitary Smooth-hound: The Lone Hunter Reeled In!

Local Marks Fishing

Hello and welcome to Local Marks Fishing!!

The plan for this session was to return for the big smoothhounds using the same tricks as before. We would use peeler crab and prawn baits until the sun went down and then pick hardback crabs from the rocks to use as bait! The plan went really well as the sun did in fact eventually go down! The hounds also turned up and began to attack the baits. The prawn baits were getting hammered by the huge hounds however a mistake had been made which saw a few very good fish lost. Unlike the previous session the rigs being used for this one were single hook pully rigs and not double hooked pulley pennels. There were some incredible bites stripping line off the reels but the single hook setup didn't set on the fish. It was getting very frustrating as big bite after big bite was swimming away! At one point a large hardback crab was put on and cast out. Less than five minutes later it tore off and bagged a beautiful 11LB hound @ 01:57:45. It was a great result but bigger had been lost on the night. Things were absolutely mental crazy until low tide when the bite simply died off completely! There wasn't a single bite for the rest of the night! Thankfully you guys were all there to keep great company until the time came to pack away. I'm really looking foreword to getting back on the hounds. We have a 15LB plus target to catch this year! We may even see it on the next Local Marks Fishing LIVE SHOW and I hope you guys are there to find out!!! Until then please take care!!!
