8 Javanese Cat
They vary between 5 pounds or 2.2 kg up to 10 pounds or 4.4 kg. They’re a longhaired cat with a strong, muscular body. They have long bodies, tails, noses and legs and unusual wedgeshaped heads. Their most striking feature must be their eyes, a deep blue colour that is prominent in their smaller heads. They have long, silky hair that comes in a variety of beautiful shades. They are great companions, friendly and playful. This breed came about from crossing the Siamese with Colorpoint Shorthair and Balinese cats.

7 Munchkin Cat
Just the name is enough to make most people melt, and this breed of cat comes with short, stout legs that stem from a natural mutation. Although the initial coming about of a munchkin cat was natural, there is controversy surrounding further breeding of these cats, as it encourages a deformation in an animal. They weigh between 5 and 9 pounds or 2.2 to 4 kg and are swift on those little legs. These cats love to hoard goodies, often sit on their hind legs like rabbits and are very curious creatures!

6 Devon Rex Cats
We’ve seen German Rex cats and Cornish Rex cats, now let’s meet the Devon Rex cat they weigh between 5 and 9 pounds or 2.2 to 5 kg and sport an alien/pixie type of appearance. They have a slender body offset by large, striking eyes, high cheekbones and long legs. Hard to imagine that we’re speaking about a cat here! They come in many different colours and have a soft, curly coat. Their coats are very fine and fragile, and these cats often have bald patches where the cat tends to lick excessively. They are highly intelligent, active and entertaining.

5 Guiña
Also known as a kodkod, this 5.5pound or 2.5 kg cat is only found in Central and Southern Chili, with a few being spotted in Argentina. They are the smallest cat in the Americas. This beautiful cat is an agile climber but does most of its hunting on the ground. They eat birds, insects, lizards and small mammals. They’re classed as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List with less than 10,000 in the wild. Unusual for a cat, they’re equally active during the day as they are at night and rest in thick vegetation where they are well camouflaged. Their biggest threat now is the loss of natural habitat.

4 Singapura Cat
This beauty weighs between 4 and 7 pounds or 1.8 to 3.1 kg. The origins of this dynamic little cat are said to have started in Singapore where cat fanciers Hal and Tommy Meadow took their own cats and bred them with an adopted cat from a local shelter. The result was this sepiatoned cat with the small body boasting beautiful big eyes and rather large eyes. This cat is now considered a living treasure in Singapore. These cats are fast learners, and you can easily teach them to do a few tricks. They are extroverted, enquiring and smart, and get along well with children and other animals

3 Flatheaded cat
This bizarre looking cat is very small and weighs 3.3 to 5.5 pounds or 1.5 to 2.5 kg. Sadly, not only is it bizarre looking but also critically endangered. It’s currently the most endangered small cat in Southeast Asia, with only 2,500 adults remaining in the wild. This cat leads a semiaquatic lifestyle, has a flattened forehead, slightly webbed feet and sharp teeth to help it catch and kill slippery fish. They also eat frogs and other crustaceans, but should they have no success in the water, will also eat chicken or rats. The forest wetlands where they live are being destroyed, which is the main reason their numbers are dwindling so rapidly. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand have all banned hunting of the flatheaded cats.

2 Black Footed Cat
Southern Africa is home to one of the smallest cats in the world – the blackfooted cat. This cutie weighs 3.6 pounds or 1.8 kg. It’s officially the smallest cat in Africa and has been called, the “deadliest cat on Earth.” Of the entire cat family, this cat has the highest success rate when it comes to hunting. In a single night, this cat can devour up 14 items of prey, consisting of rodents and small prey. They are listed as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List, with less than 10,000 adults remaining. Their biggest threats include habitat deterioration from overgrazing, traps and bait poisoning.
