In desperate need of both a decent workbench with vices and workshop storage I decided on the Sjobergs flatpacked Nordic Plus 1450 workbench and am delighted with the result.

It comes with 2 steel screw vices which can be mounted in 4 locations on the bench. The bench is ideal for smaller workshop but remains a weighty and sturdy bench for handtool work.

The top is made from solid beech is 28mm in the centre and 70mm at the edges.

I had spent some time looking at workbench ideas, plans and videos trying to decide what I needed. This included traditional english joiners benches, roubo style benches and those swedish benches popular in nordic countries. However in the end I decided I just needed a bench and the Sjöbergs bench seemed to fit the bill.

While Sjobergs do many benches I discounted the Elite 2000, 2500 and 1500 due to its physical size. I have a singlecar garage that measures only 6m by 3m. The Scandi Plus benches were a little out of my price range. And the SB119 (SB 119) is new on the market and again dismissed due to size.

The dog holes are 19mm in size compared to the 20mm holes in the Festool MFT and Parfdog / Parfguide system. So beware. However Sjöbergs sell holddowns (holdfast), bench dogs and clamps. So expect me to accessorise over the coming months.
