The British Shorthair Cat Playlist:
   • Caring For Your British Shorthair Cat

British Shorthair Cats are such amazing pets and they are a brilliant addition to your household. If you are considering keeping a second British Shorthair Cat then you are likely wondering whether this is a good idea. Well, keeping multiple British Shorthair cats is a great idea!

CONSIDERATIONS

Your furry British Shorthair cat will be content without a second cat in the home. However your cat may prefer the additional company, as these breeds of cats enjoy lots of feline and human company all of the time. British Shorthairs will not only follow you around the house, but they will also follow each other and prefer not to be alone, they will enjoy some company.
Multiple British Shorthairs within the same household does come with a few things to consider though, so let’s discuss these.
Firstly, there is the initial cost of purchasing a British Shorthair cat. Buying one of these breeds can come with a high price tag if purchased from a reputable breeder. There is then the additional cost of food, cat litter, toys, worming and flea treatment, pet insurance and vet bills!
You should also consider whether you have enough room within your house for both of the cats to freely roam, for when they would prefer their own peace and quiet. Though this is quite rare, as British Shorthair cats often prefer to stay close to their owners and other pets within the household.

THE BENEFITS

There are plenty of benefits for purchasing another British Shorthair. For example, British Shorthair cats are very loveable pets and enjoy lots of affection. This can act as a great stress reliever and boosts your mood. British Shorthair cats also enjoy being in groups, with the exception of two male cats. Even if both male cats are neutered, they will tend to become aggressive towards each other, which can require your intervention. Therefore, if you can offer your British Shorthair cat a feline companion then another cat of the same breed is an excellent idea.
This can stop your feline from feeling lonely, especially if you do not work from home. Since British Shorthair cats are mostly kept as indoor house cats then you will want to make sure your feline has a companion where possible.

THE DOWNSIDES

In all honesty, there are very few downsides to having multiple British Shorthair cats within the same household. Besides the additional costs involved, they are fantastic pets, especially when placed in a family home environment. Whilst they are far from the cheapest of pets, they make a great investment due to their long lifespans and have minimal behaviour problems, if any at all!
You should consider whether you can dedicate enough time each day to looking after your British Shorthair cats. Whilst they do not require much physical exercise and attention, they would still like to be beside you as much as possible.

YOUR DECISION

It can sometimes be a difficult decision to purchase a second British Shorthair, so you need to consider all of the factors before making your choice. Ideally you should purchase a second kitten or cat from the same breeder. This will make you feel more at ease during the process and simplify the experience. Your breeder will also be able to explain the benefits of multiple British Shorthairs within the same household. This is because cat breeders watch the cats grow up together and can vouch for the experience of multiple British Shorthairs together and the benefits this brings.
If your budget can allow for it, then you should definitely consider a second British Shorthair for your home.
