This is the start of a new build series. A sewing table and stool for my mother. I gained inspiration for this build from Michael Pekovich’s floating top work table and although there are obvious difference between my design and Mr. Pekovich (notably my joinery methods) I asked for his permission to call this design my own. The table base and stool are constructed of solid Cherry with 2sided tapered legs, raised apron rails, and pillowed through mortise and tenon joints. The table top is an MDF core veneered with a raw wood Curly Cherry. The border of the table top is made of solid Cherry and is joined at the corners with a bridle joint. The border edge is treated with a 15 degree under bevel to create a lighter look. Finally, Holly inlay stinging was routed into the table top to create contrast and separation between the solid Cherry border and the curly Cherry veneer infield. This video focusses on the milling and joinery of the table base and stool.

While the milling and joinery for the table base and stool are complete, the legs still need to be tapered and the apron rails need to be shaped. I’m going to put the base and stool to the side and focus the next video on the veneered table top.
