My solution to the pile of scrap metal I had under my workbench. It's a lattice structure made of 1/4" round bar welded together. The lattice panels are spaced 12" apart. If I made cubbies with walls then short pieces of material could get pushed to the back and never seen again. This way I can see what material I have and how long it is from the side.
