She spent 26 days in the nest until she fledged, but she kept returning to the nest for two more days. We noticed that Sapphire was tolerating Jade less and less, but what happened next nobody expected.

One day after Jade left the nest for good, Alik notified us that Sapphire had laid an egg in a nest located further up the wire. This nest was built by another Allen's hummingbird last year, but unfortunately, she ever laid a second egg and she abandoned the nest.

It seems that Sapphire had to restore this other nest because Jade spent a record time of 28 days in the main nest.

One day after Sapphire laid the first egg of her second clutch, Alik relocated the overhead camera and finally, we could admire the egg.

Sapphire spent the night on the egg and then later in the morning she laid the another.

Good job, Sapphire. You're a great mother. Stay tuned, because on the day of publishing this video, we begin hatch watch for Sapphire's second clutch. The Link is in the description, see you there and start thinking of baby names!

This is Sapphire's second clutch. After Jade fledged, she restored an old nest located further up the wire and laid the first egg of her second clutch on March 15 and the second on March 17.
