RV Slide Out Roller Supports | Schwintek Slide Issues | Slide Out Supports | Full Time Family

Our Schwintek Bedroom slide has been a pain in our side almost the whole time we have had our rig. And we haven't even had it that long! If you search the internet, you will find the schwintek slide system is not the most popular system out there.

In this video we address an issue with the rollers starting to crack or break through the bottom of the slide. The only place that we started to notice was at the far outside edge. This appears to be where the rollers sit on the slide when the slide is retracted in for transport or storage. We didn't want this to become a bigger issue down the road.

We were able to find where people have used aluminum strips for the rollers to ride on but since we try to save as much money as possible and stay on budget, Jordan went to looking in his dad's scrap pile. He was able to find a partial sheet of 1/8" steel and there was just enough.

⭐ Tools & Materials We Used ⭐
Loctite Adhesive Caulk https://amzn.to/3dRuLSi
1" Wood Screws https://amzn.to/3fTBTiM
1/8" Sheet Metal We cut ours to 9" Wide & 35.5" Long (Qty 3)
Black Spray Paint https://amzn.to/3bD7pOu
Plasma Cutter You can also use a grinder with a cutoff wheel
Grinder with Flapper Discs https://amzn.to/2T8Ehsh
Cordless Drill https://amzn.to/3MrKVp7
Caulking Gun https://amzn.to/3dSNdKd
Rubber Mallet https://amzn.to/2X3uJja
Drill Bit Set https://amzn.to/2WZbBmv

⭐ HowTo ⭐
1) Measure from the outside edge of your slideout floor to the edge of your roller. You will want to add about 2" so that your support will go between your roller and the floor. Also, measure the width of your roller. Ours was 5" and we added 2" to each side for a total of 9".
2) We had 3 rollers so we cut out 3 supports that measured 35.5" x 9".
3) Grind all edges smooth with the grinder and flapper wheels and remove any surface rust from the metal.
4) Paint the supports to the color of your choosing.
5) Pre drill the holes in your supports. We choose to space our about every 6" on both side edges of the support.
6) Place the adhesive caulk to one side of the support.
7) Set one end against the slide roller and the floor. Use a rubber mallet to tap the support between the roller and floor until it will sit flush with the outside edge of the floor.
8) Press the support into place against the floor. (It helps to have an extra set of hands here.
9) With one person holding the support up, you can then screw the support into place. Be sure to start at the outside edge and work your way towards the roller.
10) Test the operation of the slide once all supports are in place to ensure nothing is binding.

We have had nothing but issues with our Schwintek Slide system. In this video you see the slide doesn't come in all the way and pretty much stops working. We made an appointment with Cousins RV in Colorado Springs CO. https://www.cousinsrv.com/ This is the 2nd time we have had this slide into them for work. The first trip they replaced one of the motors. This time, the other motor had a short in the wiring harness. They replaced the harness and that was all this time. We have also had issues with leaking because of this system as well. If you do a search on the internet you will find this is a common issue.

If you have questions about the upgrade or feedback after doing your own, we'd love to hear them! Leave us a comment here or on any of our social media channels.
