Always make sure that a righting line is tied to the mast base before sailing. The line should be between 5 and 10 metres long. For a better hold, tie a knot on the line every 10 cm at a distance of half a catamaran width over a length of approx. 2 metres.

When sailing, if you notice that the catamaran is rising too high out of the water, first try to open the mainsheet and lean your body out as far as you can. Always make sure that you have good grip with your feet under the hiking straps. This is usually enough to successfully prevent capsizing.
But if it is already too late, try to fall into the water between the mainsail and the trampoline. This not only protects the sail, but is also safer for you.

The easiest way to right up the catamaran is to have a "masthead float" attached to the masthead. This makes the masthead float on the water surface.

Before you start righting up, release the mainsheet and the foresheet. You want to prevent your boat from getting pressure in the sails when it is righted up, which would cause it to capsize or pick up speed right away. If you want to be on the safe side, you can also furl the headsail. If you have sailed with the booster, be sure to furl it before righting up. Next, throw the righting line over the hull.

Then swim to the bow and hold it well. The catamaran will thus automatically turn with the mast across the wind. The wind will lift your mainsail from the front in the next step – this will make it easier for you to right your boat!

Now you are ready to right the catamaran again:

To do this, stand on the hull in the extension of the mast and wrap the righting line once around your waist. Stretch your body through and lean back as far as you can. Be sure to be outside the hull when it falls back onto the water.

As soon as the boat is righted again, turn it with the bow facing the wind, taking care never to lose contact with the boat. The best solution to do is to hold on to the righting line and pull yourself up sideways by the shrouds.
