We are back where we started at the Dower House; in the snug (which is what we Brits call a sitting room). When we first laid eyes on this and every other space in this long neglected Georgian manor/cottage every last bit of charm had been stripped out. One of our first projects in the snug was to add beams to the ceiling. We were thrilled to discover a very old and massive fireplace behind a wall! Today we are creating our own paneling, applying lime plaster, making secret doors and adding a hearth to the fireplace. Whew!

Also Borja’s mother is arriving from Spain. We’re excited for her to see the progress we’ve made and as always she’s offered to lend us a hand. She’s a great sport but she may change her mind when she discovers that she needs to sit inside an extremely dirty fireplace while wearing a gas mask!
