Restoration Rusty Axe - Eaten by the Earth

Screws And Tools

Hello folks! Today I have a restoration of an old axe that is more than one century old, judging by the shape and the axe eye. Quite by chance, I found it at a flea market and thought it was just a piece of iron. However, the seller said that this axe was found in the ground and sold it to me for $2. The condition of the head axes is of course terrible, but this only adds interest! Well, let's start the restoration!

The first duty, I put it in a jar and filled with rust remover. After 1 day, I took it out and immediately placed it in warm water with soda to neutralize the acid.

Then, I began cleaning the surface with a wire iron brush and preparing for welding the axe. After cleaning the rust, I found a many new cracks that were hidden by a layer of rust.

After I welded all the cracks, I started processing and sanding it. I also made new bevels and slightly sharpened them.

Next, I started hardening the axe. Previously, I normalized it 2 times and then poured it in heated oil.
I made the handle of the axe from beech wood, the wedge for the axe is wooden. After processing and fitting, the handle was tested, as usual, thank you all for watching!

Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
