Refurbishing and Re-Tinning Copper Cookware

House Copper & Cookware

Taking 200 year old vintage copper cookware, cleaning off the tin, retinning, and polishing takes some time, especially when the bottom of a pan isn't true (laying flat), and some of the copper is so old, along the bottom cramp seam it needs to be braized so it doesn't leak.

We believe these to be early 1800's, based on the gauge of the copper, and the fact that it was built in the flat, meaning the entire body and base (formed separately) were cut out and put together out of a sheet of copper. The handles are also copper, and we were able to repair and make them workable, even getting out the verdigris.

That's the cool thing about tinlined copper. Even when it's hundreds of years old, it's so repairable, and what makes copper cookware so renewable and sustainable. Can't go wrong with that!
