The Getty Adventures

I review a RAM 1500 with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine as a Heavy Duty Mechanic and see if this small engine can actually tow. I go over the power numbers, fuel economy, acceleration, engine reliability and longevity and how this engine compares to the 5.7L hemi. Finally I get on the road and tow a heavy trailer to see how this v6 engine handles a load.

So I figured I would start off the RAM 1500 towing with the smaller 3.6L v6 engine option since well it is the base model engine for these trucks. fear not, the 5.7L hemi will be making it's return on the channel doing his towing test as well.

we are technically overloaded on this run but I thought it was critical to maintain the same trailer weight across every 1500 truck in the segment so we get to see this little v6 engine working very hard.

good news is that this 3.6L pentastar v6 engine is a very reliable stout unit and I had very little worries about over working this engine. this v6 engine is known to be a great working engine and if you own one it will be a very reliable engine option in the ram 1500's

throughout the towing run this engine was revving very high and if these hills were any longer this engine would of most likely overheated. needless to say I understand why the tow rating on these v6 engines are so low because they just don't have the torque needed to keep those wheels moving.

my take away here is if you need to tow a heavy trailer this engine will do it but I would not recomend towing over 6,000lbs at length with this engine.
