Power is not the most important aspect when throwing a punch in a fight. Too many beginner over concern themselves with getting that knockout punch, and in turn tense up their muscles, waste energy, inhibit their accuracy, and slow their punches down. You’ve probably heard people say it before: stay calm in a fight. They don’t mean like a wet noodle, overly relaxed, but wait to tense up your muscles just before making contact!

An example of a great fighter who tenses his muscles at the right time is Gennady Golovkin. He stays calm and composed just before his punch lands, then you see his muscles and face both tense up. And look at his knockout percentage! This works for him because he makes sure his punch is going to land in the right spot, it gets their on time, and THEN he tightens up to pack a harder punch.
